Led by Patti Harrison, we all sang Happy Birthday to wish a Happy 93rd Birthday to José Guerra!!
Last Thursday nine of us gathered for a bat watching cruise on Lady Bird Lake. We had beautiful weather, a very interesting guide, and got to see bats up close coming out of the crevices under the Congress Avenue Bridge.
Linda shared that the speakers at our meetings always say they love our club. What a nice compliment!
Pam Blankenzee called in on Lisa’s phone and was Facetimed into the meeting. Amber asks for who can’t make it. Being out of town is the only excuse!! LOL. We are all volunteers, and are hosts - to make sure guests are welcomed, sit with them, play the games, and have fun.
South Austin Rotary is excited to welcome two new members to our Rotary family: Tearia Alao and Lorna Lewis! We are thrilled to have Tearia and Lorna join our club and look forward to getting to know them, learning from their experiences, and working alongside them in service to our community.
Hana, our Rotary Exchange student from Japan, arrived Saturday late afternoon. She was met at the airport by Ann (her host), Lisa, Mickie, Dawn, Linda, and Virginia Craig (5870 District Youth Exchange Officer). Allison drove Hana and Ann to their house where Shirley, Ray, and Lorna were there to welcome them home. Supper was served; it was fun and festive. Hana is making a quick adjustment to school at Bowie High. She already experienced Friday Night Lights at a football game. Welcome to Texas!
Everyone will get a chance to meet Hana at our fabulous Runway to Paradise Beach Party on October 3.
Dawn Lewis, our Foundation Chair, presented Paul Harris+ pins to Patty Hoyt and Linda Boxberger. Linda is recognized as a PHF +2, and Patty is a PHF +5. Patrick reminded us that Rotary is one of the premier foundations in the world, with a 99% Charity Navigator ranking.
Kim Kankel (District 5870 Public Image Chair) presented us with our 25/26 Rotary Rockstar Banner, accepted by 25/26 President Lisa Killough and Amber Scarborough, with a shout out to Pam Blankenzee. We are one of only 8 clubs in the District to fulfill the requirements. Being a Rotary Rockstar Club is about how to tell your story, and how you share your public identity. We are very fortunate to have Amber, Patrick, and Pam in our club to steer our messaging. The challenge continues for the 26/27 Rotary year. Kim reminds us that brand compliance is important and to ask for help if we need it.
Allison: for the incredible team for our event this weekend. Special shoutout to Lisa. Allison dreamed there was standing room only!! Also, God is looking down on us; the near hijacking was averted by pilots.
Our visiting Rotarian, Kim (District 5870 Public Image Chair), won the opportunity to draw and found the 5 of Spades. The Queen is still available, and the pot continues to grow!
